Wisdom - in a cup of Teh-Peng

Had a sudden realisation the other day while having lunch.

We all start somewhere, somehow. An analogy, for a start, life is like our favourite drink. Something that we like, choose, embrace, hold oh so close and dearly. So I choose Tea.

Tea is so full of character and individuality, can be full bodied, medium bodied, fermented or not, infused, blend etc. Price wise from cents per cup to tens of dollars or even more as you ages (for instance pu-er tea)

Alright. Assume we lead our life as tea, and the daily lessons we learn is equivalent to the '3 minute infusion' which brings out our full flavour of tea leaves in hot water. I can say we are just constantly preparing for greater heights in life, like the peak flavour.

I love my cup of tea cold. So I would have to steep my tea leaves for longer. Say, 4 minutes. Stronger tea needs longer steeping time. Like life, you have to work longer and harder to prepare for greater things. Oh yes, the reason why cold tea needs to be stronger is because the ice added will dilute it in time.

So, after the 4 minute infusion, I am steeped and ready for the ice. The enhancement is wisdom. I prepared a lifetime to receive wisdom. The first realisation is this. You have to be prepared to receive wisdom. You have to fulfill the pre-requisite in order to not waste what is to come. If you add ice to a cup of tea that had been steeped for less than a minute, it will be rather tasteless like a cup of plain, ice water instead.

And then, ice is added. A cupful of ice.

Self and wisdom, tastefully blended in a cup. But then.. Time is needed for the ice to cool down the tea, as in wisdom to sink in the individual.

However, many a time the twist sets in here. We are too eager to receive this new wisdom that we gulp down our not-yet-cooled tea too quickly. What has changed then? Nothing has changed in the properties of the tea. The tea remained too strong from the 4 minute infusion, the temperature unchanged, the ice was wasted. The wisdom had not been received, it had been wasted, with ourselves remained unchanged. Preparations wasted, wisdom too. Worse still, the overly strong character and individuality had not benefited from the change.

The main realisation, however, is this. Since there is nothing that can be undone, instead of dwelling in the process, we should move on. Oh no. What is left? Nothing has left in the cup, except for ice cubes. Which is, essentially just water. You might argue that it is still wisdom left in there but do you realise that when you take the tea out of the cup, there is no way ice can enhance anything. Wisdom cannot act on its own.

End of day if we do not savour the process, we are reduced. Not even left with the original us which were at least, flavourful tea.

30 Minutes Rant - What I do on weekends?

Ever since graduation a year and a half ago, lifestyle had inevitably changed for most of us. No more 3 pm driving range, 5 pm gym, off-peak cheap student movie tickets etc. So I would say, weekends became much more valuable in comparison.

Sometimes I wonder what do my peers do on their weekends. Some said they will catch up on korean drama, some on movies online, others on other online activities. Hmmm.. My weekends. I do go online, but usually after I'm done with day activities. Going online is like last on the list, when there is no more sunlight, no more shopping, no more errands, no more hobbies.

My weekend typically starts on friday night where i'll usually go somewhere quiet to read a book. Saturday and Sunday are days when I will try to wake up naturally, but usually my niece would have knocked on my door before that, sadly. Take today for example, I was determined to stay in bed but my cute niece came knocking on my door saying 'good morning yi yi, time to wake up!'. So I was expecting nice fluffy pancakes because her mum said they will be preparing pancakes for breakfast. It turned out that they were unable to get the correct consistency for the pancake batter and needed my help. So I spent half the day fixing the batter and making pancakes. Not very good for the sick soul in me.

This weekend, I spent it sick. Yeah, I spent half the week drowning in herbal tea but to no avail. In fact it made it worse. My cold did not get better, and I guess the excessive herbal tea gave me diarrhea.

While there's no sports, meal meetings or shopping this week, other things still have to go on. Like usual weekend grooming. Nails, eyebrow trimming, black head sticker etc. Ensure that I am back in office looking groomed at least. To me, it is straight forward. No matter whether there are eyes watching or not, dress up to as much self respect you have.

Weekends are also time for me to clear backlogs. Like, reply emails, pay bills, check upcoming events, analyse the traffic stats for my blog.

How about you? How about you?

What about you?

Rascal slang: ratchet!

I always thought that ratchet means a one way fixed gear in machinery. You too I bet. However, apparently ratchet has made it into the urban dictionary. of. slang.

So yesterday while i was on the way to work, the cab driver had his radio on and there was a special segment by fiza who then introduced and explained 'ratchet'.

To sum it up, it meant anything unsavoury or simply, ghetto.

Hmmm.. Like for example, wearing sheer leggings with no outer bottoms to work, the butt cheeks that can't be unseen, is so ratchet.

If you think that going shopping at champ elysees is fine in your tattered tank top, holey shorts and slippers, as long as complemented by your rolex... That is so ratchet.

Not just appearance, but behaviour too can be said ratchet.

Like, you call your colleague by nickname of 'shitty' and still expect to be treated with respect. Ratchet!

Oh and this morning! There was a Jaguar obstructing the narrow two lane road of one traffic, so the bus that i was on honked a super long one. Guess what? The Jaguar driver didn't move an inch. He was just sitting there texting. Ratchet much!!

Haha so I guess almost everything can be labelled a ratchet. That is how slang works isn't it? :)

Have a nice hump day!
